Memorial Health System (MHS) held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new Women and Children’s Hospital at the Belpre Medical Campus, featuring performances by local school groups and speeches from local officials.

Robin Burrow, Secretary and Treasurer of the Joe Burrow Foundation, spoke at the event, highlighting the hospital’s significance as a crucial resource for women’s and children’s health in the region. She emphasized the responsibilities of leaders to help support those in need and how communities are only as strong as their weakest child.

The hospital, a collaboration between MHS and Akron Children’s Hospital, is expected to cost $125 million, with $30 million coming from the state of Ohio.

Governor Mike DeWine praised the project, stating it would greatly improve healthcare access in Southeast Ohio. The event also included the launch of the “Together Campaign,” which aims to raise $50 million to fund the hospital and establish an endowment for future healthcare projects. So far, $37 million has been raised, and the hospital is set to open in approximately two years.
